Destinus and Grupo Oesía sign an agreement to strengthen deterrent capability with surface-to-surface long-range systems

  • Initially, it will focus on the long-range missile 'RUTA', developed by the company Destinus and already operational, which incorporates 100% Spanish technology in its guidance, navigation, and control system, developed by UAV Navigation-Grupo Oesía.
  • This system constitutes a crucial tool for deterrence and dominance in modern multi-domain combat.

Madrid, May 13, 2025 – Destinus, an aerospace company focused on the development of hypersonic propulsion systems and advanced defense solutions, and Grupo Oesía, a multinational company dedicated to dual-use digital and industrial engineering, have signed a strategic collaboration technology agreement for the joint development, production and marketing of a long-range defense system, currently operational in real-life scenarios and with a high Spanish industrial component.

The agreement will focus, in its first phase, on the long-range missile "RUTA." This is the first Low-Cost Missile (LCM) drone developed by Destinus, also classified as a loitering munition, designed to operate in highly contested scenarios. The system incorporates an advanced guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) system, developed by UAV Navigation-Grupo Oesía, which has been validated in real-world combat conditions, including GNSS-denied environments or under jamming and spoofing attacks.

'RUTA' offers autonomous flight capabilities, target-referenced navigation, terminal optical guidance, and coordinated swarm operations, enabling the execution of complex synchronized attack maneuvers to saturate or deceive defense systems. The platform flies at a cruising speed of Mach 0.8, has a range of up to 500 km, and a terminal impact accuracy of 15 square meters (CEP).

Grupo Oesía through its company UAV Navigation—specialized in GNC systems for unmanned aerial vehicles—is responsible for the design, integration, and validation of the GNC system equipped with the missile, developed and manufactured in Spain. This system, based on proprietary technology and highly reliable components, enables autonomous takeoff, precise low-altitude flight, coordinated swarm operations, and the final attack on the target with great precision, even in highly contested environments and without GNSS signals. Its robustness and effectiveness have been proven in real-world combat conditions.

The system, already deployed in real-world operations, has demonstrated high operational value thanks to its precision, range, tactical flexibility, and ability to integrate with other forces. Its advantages include reduced risk to our troops, rapid response to emerging threats, and competitiveness in terms of cost and production rates.

This partnership, supported by the Ministry of Defense within the framework of cooperation mechanisms with NATO, will allow the system's capabilities to be expanded and adapted to the needs of the Spanish Armed Forces, as well as its expansion into international markets.

Furthermore, this collaboration reinforces both companies' commitment to technological sovereignty and the participation of Spanish industry in high-tech defense programs. It also includes a significant expansion of the participation of Spanish companies in the development of key components and subsystems, consolidating a national technological ecosystem with international reach.

The president and CEO of Grupo Oesía noted that this project "demonstrates the advanced technology of UAV Navigation-Grupo Oesía, working with a European leader like DESTINUS in the field of dual-use and multipurpose drones." Furthermore, Furnells stated, "it represents a further step in our already solid relationship with Destinus and positions us as a Tier 1 of a leading system provider in the industry."

In his speech, the president of the Spanish multinational technology company emphasized that "it represents a step toward greater strategic autonomy and a more robust national defense industry, as it will make it possible to provide our Ministry of Defense and the Army with a fully proven operational capability and national sovereignty at the service of European strategic autonomy."

Mikhail Kokorich, founder of Destinus, noted that “such a partnership makes it possible to quickly deliver advanced solutions that respond to the needs identified in recent military conflicts.” He added that “defense industries must learn to adapt quickly to ensure Europe's security amid growing threats.”

Placido Marquez, CEO of Destinus Spain: "This collaboration with the Grupo Oesía represents a perfect fit between our vertical integration strategy and collaboration with partners of international scope to offer high-level airborne systems. It is a model that we could extend to other players."

About RUTA, he says: “This system is proving to be an outstanding piece of engineering for European defense, and we hope that its future developments can be aligned with the needs of Spanish defense.”
